I AM also concerned about the Okehampton to Lydford by-pass, sorry I mean the Granite Way. As your reader said ? in last week?s Okehampton Times ? this cycle route is dangerous.
This so-called cycle route is so wide you can drive a bus along it and the tar macadam is a better surface than some roads in Devon.
Motorbikes have already been using use it as a short cut from Okehampton to Sourton. They can bypass the traffic problems in Okehampton, (sorry, we are told there are no traffic problems).
Being such a good surface cyclists can get a good speed along the route and this is dangerous to other users.
Is this why horse riders have been banned from using the route? The route is not very good for walking, as being a hard surface it can cause problems to your knees.
Another good idea ruined.
