OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club's  open 10 mile time trial last Wednesday evening drew a big entry  from cycle clubs all over the South West.

The course starts on the A30 dual carriageway 2.1 miles west of Sourton and proceeds towards Launceston before turning at the  Stowford Cross slip road  crossing the flyover bridge and returning on the eastbound carriageway to the finish. The time trial was won by Okehampton resident Steve Sage, who rides for the North Devon Southfork club and had a great ride to beat 21 minutes

Results: S Sage (Southfork), 20.58; S Edney (North Devon Wheelers), 21.38; G Fouracres (St. Austell Wheelers), 21.49. 

There was  good representation from  Okehampton CC members with the best placed rider being Jamie Fabrizio followed by Andy Retter. Finish times: J Fabrizio, 22.39; A Retter, 23.22; T Bridgeman, 23.24; A Gray, 23.55; M Rice, 24.04; Jacky Rice, 24.15; M Cory, 24.16; G Vernon, 24.30; Emily Adkin, 24.34; B Kerwin, 25.09; S.Perrett, 26.25; R Yells, 27.23; D Crome 27.42.                           

At the post race prize giving Robert Szembek, the club chairman, thanked everyone for participating especially the race marshals, timekeepers, ladies providing the refreshments and friends of Okehampton CC who helped to make the events put on by the club a success.

Club members competed last Sunday in the 25 miles time trial hosted by Tamar Cycle Club from Holsworthy to Hatherleigh and back. It was a tough ride with a brutal headwind on the return leg which made fast times difficult. Jamie Fabrizio's efforts were rewarded when he  came third with a time of 1.1.15 and Emily Adkin was the fastest lady with 1.8.44.

 l THERE was another good entry of  cyclists from the Okehampton and Tavistock area who took part in a  Summer Okehampton Time Trial time trial series. The 10 mile course traces the old A30 road from Bridestowe to Lewdown and back. Andy Retter was fastest on the night clocking a time of 26 minutes 37 seconds followed by Andy Bowyer sporting a new set of wheels with 27.09.

Congratulations should also go to young Ben Kerwin, who achieved a new personal best time for the course of 28.26.

l On the previous evening number of OKCC members teamed up in pairs to compete  in the  Royal Navy and Royal Marines Cycling Association open 16 mile sporting two-up team time trial. The undulating course started outside HMS Raleigh, Torpoint  headed along the A379 to the turn at the Trerulefoot roundabout and then returned to the finish at Antony House. Finishing times: J Fabrizio and Emily Adkin, 44.14;  M Chave and Jacky Rice, 47.37;  B Kerwin and R.Yells, 48.55;  T Johnston and MRice, 52.01.

Jamie Fabrizio and Emily Adkin came away with an award for being the second fastest mixed gender team.
