THE Haytor Heller again lived up to its name by providing testing conditions for all participants. The race starts halfway up Haytor itself and uses tracks, bridleways and narrow paths down to the bottom of Hound Tor with a long climb to the top before descending on the other side in order to run back up Haytor and down again. This race, superbly organised, offered dramatic views of Haytor Vale, for those who could clear their eyes of sweat. Despite the unremitting heat and sun, nine members of Tavistock Athletic Club acquitted themselves well. Congratulations go to Fiona Dunn, second lady overall and Annette Roberts, third F45. Full results for the club: 7th, Adam Holland SM 44:53; 20th, Chris Eastaugh M40 49:14; 25th, Ed Taylor SM 50:26; 28th, Paul Sturtridge M50 51:02; 42nd, Fiona Dunn SF 53:26; 62nd - Adrian Bower M45 58:33; 83rd, Nicole Heryet SF 1:01:59; 95th, Frank Hornby M45 1:04:01; 108th, Annette Roberts F45 1:06:32. Meanwhile, across the river in Saltash, Tavistock also had runners in the Tamar Trotters Magnificent 7 Road Race. Again held in blistering heat with almost no shade on the entire course Steve Groombridge ran extremely well to finish in 12th overall and 1st M50, beating the next M50 runner by 90 seconds.
