IN the Horrabridge 6-a-side football tournament held last weekend, local team Galacticos led by captain Harry Harding won the supplementary cup final against The Legion, Plympton.

In the champion's cup a change of name from Dudes to Wild boys made no difference and last year's winners regained the Champion's Cup.

Roborough I received the Amitie cup donated by Michel LeBailey, the representative from Tilly sur Seules in Normandy who are twinned with Horrabridge.

Weather was favourable for the 26 teams taking part with the recent high temperatures down to a more manageable level for football.

Local teams who took part were Horrabridge I and II, Horrabridge Hurricanes, Galacticos, Grub Up, Crapstone, No Strings, Ordulph Arms, and Walkhampton.

Of the eight quarter finals, five finished with a 2-0 scoreline with Elburton II and Cafe Roma I enjoying a rare goal feast, the former triumphing 4-2.

Roborough I, Galacticos, Crapstone and The Legion reached the Supplementary semi-finals and Wild Boys, Kings Tamerton CA, Elburton II, and Cheryl Burdett Photography progressed to the Champion's semis.

The Legion and Galacticos contested the Supplementary Cup final after Legion dispatched Roborough I, but only after penalties and Galacticos overcame other local rivals Crapstone 1-0.

It was Galacticos' day as they overcame Legion in the final 2-0 and captain Harry Harding proudly receiving the cup.

In the Champion's Cup semis Wild Boys just scraped through on penalties against Cheryl Burdett Photography, and Kings Tamerton overcame Elburton II 1-0.

The final was a fitting end to the tournament with good football served up by both teams with Wild Boys regaining the trophy with a 2-0 victory over Kings Tamerton and captain Adam Worth receiving the Champions Cup and the Tournament Perpetual Shield.

Thanks to referees Martin Smith, John Hookway, Dave Harding, Sandy Compton, Lee Dudman, Simon Mann, Martin Leonard, and last but not least referees 'chief' Barry Jackson for refereeing to a high standard throughout and keeping the organisers amused.

Thanks to The Colebrook Chippy, Tavistock Plant Hire, Jewsons Tavistock and Bidders Butchers Yelverton for trophy sponsorship, and finally a big thank you to all the teams who took part.
