A?CASHPOINT in Tavistock was smashed over the Christmas period.

The ATM outside Nat West Bank on Duke Street was damaged on the evening of Christmas Eve.

Sgt Dave Anning, of Tavistock Police, said he did not believe it was an attempt to steal money but probably someone getting 'aggravated' with the machine. Police are treating the incident as criminal damage.

Criminal damage was also caused elsewhere in the town over the last few days. You're Gorgeous in Abbey Place had two bay trees stolen from outside the shop and its sign thrown in the river. A litter bin on Whitchurch Road was also damaged. Sgt Anning said: 'I think someone was on a bit of a rampage.'
