A SPONSORED walk around Burrator, which was organised by Tavistock Rotary Club on behalf of the charity Shelterbox, has raised £3,200. The money is enough to provide six boxes, with each containing emergency equipment and shelter for people worldwide, who have been affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes. Although the weather on April 15 was not kind to the event and the number of people participating was not as many as expected, the organisers are determined that next year will be even better. David Glover, secretary of Tavistock Rotary Club and a volunteer Shelterbox co-ordinator, thanked all those who took part in the four-mile walk, and especially the generosity of benefactors from Bovey Tracey, who raised £500 and the efforts of pupils from Princetown Primary School who raised £490, enough for one box. He said: ?We are truly appreciative of all those who took part and we intend to do the event again next year, with this time a more challenging route for the walkers.? l Shelterbox will have their mobile trailer parked on Bedford Square on Saturday, June 30 from 9pm. The trailer provides information about the Cornish-based charity, including a demonstration of the use of its boxes and a DVD showing how they are dispatched, arrive and used in disaster zones.
