2312 (Tavistock) Squadron Air Cadets have won the Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Athletics competition. The team fought off competition from 20 other squadrons to win the championships held at Par in Cornwall.

Team captain Reece Day from Mary Tavy led the way winning all three of his individual events. Reece then brought the baton home for the team to win the 100 metres relay. The Tavistock unit were runners up in 2010 and 2011. Last year Okehampton Air Cadets pipped Tavistock at the post by just one point.

Team coach and organiser was civilian instructor Shaun Reid from Callington who said: 'I am really proud of the team. All the cadets who came made a contribution towards our winning score. Some in events they were not familiar with to make sure the team won through.'

Eight of the Tavistock cadets have been selected to represent Plymouth and Cornwall Wing at the regional finals.
