IT was a busy week for the Tavistock Wheelers — a number of them were involved in last Wednesday's circuit racing at Perranporth. Highlight of the evening was Mark Wiffen winning the sprint at the end of the E123 race to take first place. Lee Adams was third after a breakaway in the category three race while Gray Roberts was tenth. Jordan Channon was second in the youth race while Ben Kirwin finished in the top 10 in the category four race. The following day saw a large number of club members, together with a few friends from Okehampton Cycling Club, compete in the 'Three-Up' 25 mile time trial which started and finished in Chillaton. There were 14 teams of three riders and they blasted around the route which took in Brentor, Lydford, Sourton and Lewdown. The winning team — all based in Cornwall — defeated the best Devon team by just one second in a time of 1 hour 6 minutes and 47 seconds. The fastest team were Gray Roberts, Niall Todd and Phil Collings in a superb time over a hilly 25 mile course. The fastest ladies team comprised Jo Beighton, Yasmin May and Cordelia Preece while the fastest mixed team were Martin Williams, Dee Richards and Kevin Reynolds. The event finished with a few drinks and a meal at the Chichester Arms in Chillaton. The club would like to thank all the volunteer marshalls and timekeepers who helped to make this event safe but exciting. A large number of Tavistock Wheelers took part in the 100 mile Prudential London Ride on the Sunday but they were not blessed with good weather. In contrast, the normal club ride from Tavistock enjoyed much better than predicted weather and all riders reached Okehampton in dry conditions and enjoyed a coffee and cake before completing a 40 mile round trip.
