ON Saturday Tavistock Wheeler, Niall Todd, climbed  the long hill up to Gulworthy countless times to achieve the Everest Challenge — to cycle uphill for an equivalent altitude of the famous mountain's height of 8,900 metres. He did it without the aid of any Sherpa guides! Niall toiled away for nearly seven hours to achieve this huge task and has raised a substantial amount of money for the Parkinsons' charity. The club congratulated him for this superb achievement. n THERE was an excellent performance by Mark Wiffen, a member of the Tavistock Wheeler North Shore Gallery race team. He was placed first overall at the at the recent League of Veteran Cyclists National Track Championships held at the Velodrome in Manchester.  In the multi  discipline event, he was first in the sprint final, the 500 time trial and scratch race 60 laps and second in the two kilometer pursuit, which made Mark overall champion in the 50-55 age group. Tim Woodward from the club said Mark's effort were 'an absolutely fantastic performance.' n Tavistock Wheelers had great results in the Mid Devon Hill Climb on Dartmoor. Vicki Lloyd in her first open hill climb put in an impressive time of 21 minutes 17 seconds in the morning Haytor Climb, finishing fourth woman.   Jordan Channon came fourth overall at just 16 years of age with a time of 14.52 in the Haytor Climb and followed it up with 5.35 in the afternoon's Widecombe Hill Climb. This was good enough to earn him a third place, and best junior overall over the two climbs.
