TAVISTOCK Taekwon Do martial artist Tate Budge travelled to Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire to compete in the UK ITF finals night.

It is an invite only competition for the top two ranked competitors in each category following results at the UK ITF British and English championships .

Tate, aged 15, was ranked second in the under 16s second degree male black belt patterns and first in the U18s after both competitions.

He achieved wins in both the U16s second degree male black belt patterns and the U18s second degree black belt patterns to be crowned overall UK ITF champion and gained his place as part of Team UK ahead of the European Championships in Moldova this July.

Tate also had some other great news this weekend — his nomination has been successful and he has been put forward as a finalist in this year's Active Devon Sports Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Community Sport. The awards ceremony takes place at Sandy Park in Exeter on May 8.

Tate has a busy training schedule ahead of him over the coming months with regular trips to Plymouth/Bristol and London for training , regional training and UK squad training.

Tate thanks all those who have supported him over the last year, especially Paul Allen of Paul Allen Wealth Management.

If there are any other local businesses who would like to help Tate reach Moldova he asked them to get in touch as he is not funded for competitions at home or abroad.
