Honiton U15s 12

Tavistock U15s 39

TAVISTOCK displayed good attacking play from the start in the Devon Cup first round from the start with Tom Zappala kicking back through and Charlie Fethney picking up and scoring the first try next to the posts with Matt Johnson converting.

Good forward play from Honiton resulted in a try which they converted, and all seemed set for a challenging tie.

From a Tavistock penalty Alex Lewandowski passed to Alec Hampdon-Smith to set up a ruck and the ball came out to Harvey Curtin, on to Tom and finally to Charlie, who sold a dummy to touch down. Strong supporting team play resulted in the third try with Harvey passing to Charlie who ran nearly the length of the pitch score.

A re-invigorated Tavistock started the second half with wing Jack Base putting in a crunching tackle and good hands from Finn Jenkins and Matt allowing Tom to score their fourth try; Tom converted.

Time and again Honiton gained and lost possession of the ball through consistent attacking team play by Tavistock especially by Nick Savage. Honiton kept on coming which resulted in their second try.

Tavistock full back Ollie Wood's move to forward play in the second row was rewarded with a superb off load which Charlie F gathered and charged in under the posts for the fifth, unconverted try.

Honiton showed some good defensive play but the Charlie/Tom combo won through with Alex passing back to Tom for the sixth try.

Honiton were really feeling the pressure and with some good team support and forward driving - Tom again ran the length of the pitch to score the final try.

The team would like to thank all last Saturday's Morrison's shoppers who generously contributed to their Easter 2013 tour fund.

Ivybridge U14s 10

Tavistock U14s 26

TAVISTOCK helped ease some of the disappointment of losing to Tiverton in the Devon cup two weeks ago with a win over Ivybridge.

They produced a fine display of open running rugby and centre Bernie Sadler scored the first try after some slick handling from Ben Milligan and Ethan Lamerton. Milligan added the conversion.

The Tavistock pack was stronger at the scrum and Greg Cottrell playing at tight head having a solid game. Theo Cousins gave a captain's performance by disrupting Ivybridge's possession at every opportunity. Good passing from the backline enabled Ben Milligan to score a second try and shortly after some mazy running from Will Gardner helped him to score Tavistock's third. Milligan converted Gardiner's try but narrowly missed his own.

In the second half Ivybridge started the stronger and their fly half began to kick cleverly into space for his team to run on to. Despite some strong defence from Ben Luke, Scott Morris, Matt Birch and Ollie Gandy Ivybridge scored a try in the corner. They quickly added a second with a fine individual score from the fly half. Tavistock battled back with Steve Kirby and Chris Watts running strongly with the ball in hand. Ethan Lamerton, Bernie Sadler and Ben Milligan combined to turn over ball in the tackle and this led to Milligan breaking free to score Tavistock's fourth try under the posts. Milligan converted and his kicking helped to keep the score ticking over for Tavistock all game.

Okehampton U13s 12

Ivybridge U13s 62

OKEHAMPTON tried manfully, but a player down against the County Champions always meant this was too big an ask.

Playing on the wide open spaces of the front pitch, Okehampton started down the slope and were competitive in the early stages. However, the well drilled Ivybridge side used their player advantage and the width of the pitch to establish a 19-0 lead.

Oke came back at the visitors and were rewarded for their forwards' efforts when Leon Horn took a quick tap penalty and scampered over to reduce the arrears.

Ivybridge stretched their lead with another try before Oke scored their second try of the half - again through Leon Horn, who also slotted the conversion to make it 26-12.

Another Ivybridge try made it 31-5 at the break, and Okehampton had a second half up the slope to contend with. It was always going to be tough, and Ivybridge scored another six tries as Oke struggled to contain the visitors pacey, strong running backs.

It was a much improved effort compared to recent weeks.

Tavistock U13s 36

Bude U13s 10

FROM the outset Tavistock were dominant in almost every area showing absolute commitment.

Superb work over the loose ball and great support play were their hallmarks of the game, exemplified by player of the match Jack Morris.

Quick hands out to the wing saw Reuben in at the corner after two minutes. Although a superb tackle from Finn saved an otherwise certain reply, Bude's big pack kept up the pressure and deserved the five points won.

Tavistock were straight back at them. Nathan charged from half-way with Al in close support to receive and complete another great try. Total commitment by the forwards dominated possession and territory. Bude could not hold and a more cleanly delivered ball saw Reuben cut back inside for his second to make it 17-5 to Tavistock at half-time.

The Tavistock pedal stayed firmly pressed for the second half. More quick ball saw Ben split the Bude defence with his pace and in under the posts.

The visitors came back when the Bude wing ran for their second try. Tavistock resumeed their dominance when Jack E made a great charge with Soul in support to cross the line.

Some lovely breaks by the likes of Max, Ed and Joe P were unlucky to go unrewarded. Great support play by Jack E to shadow a charging run by Nathan saw him take the pass and seal the game.

Crediton U10s 25

Okehampton U10s 0

ALTHOUGH Okehampton lost the game, the boys displayed improvement over previous matches.

Ryan was particularly impressive in tight play and was the pick of the forwards. Jay and Charlie supported Ryan well and both were strong at scrum and line out time. Oliver and Ed made a lot of running breaks and Dillon, James, Thomas, Jacob and Robert supported well and made plenty of effective tackles.

Although Crediton made a quick start to this match but Oke got right back in to the game and came away happy with the opportunities that they created.

Tavistock U10s 40

OPM U10s 10

BOTH teams battled hard for the first seven minutes of the game, with both teams coming close to scoring before Toby B's breakaway gave Tavistock the lead.

OPM fought back hard and despite some good try line defence from Tavistock, went over to level the score.

Strong tackling by Tavistock from Isaac and William held them short. The home side broke out, with good play springing Ewan to score in the corner.

Daniel's first try of the day extended the Tavistock lead, before a well worked try from OPM made the halftime score 15-10 to Tavistock.

Tavistock opened the second half with the restart being run in for a try by Daniel. The home side continued to ruck and scrum well, with Billy and Catherine in fine form.

Daniel went in to score his third try before Jonathan ran almost going the length of the pitch, dodging defenders and breaking tackles until offloading to Toby B, to touch down.

Further good runs down the right from Toby L and William, who had his best game of the season, set up another Daniel try, before Isaac capped a solid team performance by scoring a late try from another set piece.
