Plymstock U15s 7

IN this first round of the 2012 Cup playing down the slope on the first team pitch Oke started well, and while Plymstock never seemed to give up the chase they were never really allowed into the game.

The first Okehampton try was scored inside five minutes, touched down by Luke Shinn and by half time both Brandon Horn and Ben Arnold had added two more.

In the second half the visitors never took advantage of the slope and when Plymstock scored within minutes Okehampton reinstated the lead margin with a try from Brandon Horn. Kelly College U15s 46 Plymouth College U15s 11

KELLY College started well with the forwards rucking well and continually won some clean ball. Some great kicking and defensive work relieved the pressure. In fact, it was a long kick down field, a defensive mix up and a break away that resulted in a try for Plymouth to open the scoring.

However, Kelly responded quickly with a try thanks to some close quarter pick and drives. Kelly's back row, led by Alec Hampden-Smith, rucked superbly and dominated, causing havoc for the Plymouth three quarters. Kelly ended the first half two tries ahead.

The second half saw Kelly College surge ahead led by captain Joe Holbrook as the backs found the gaps in the defence. A sprint from the Kelly 22 yard line by the wing Dylan Cowell ended with a further try..

Newquay girls U15s 30

Tavistock girls U15s 10

TAVISTOCK teamed up with Liskeard to play a Newquay U15 team. Newquay were well coordinated and heavier in the forwards giving them the superiority in possession and ran out deserved winners. Tavistock's Lily Hillson, Lily Mills and captain Lizzie Crocker tried to contain the Newquay team as Newquay barged through three times in the first 10 minutes before Tavistock put together an organised defence. It then became a more equal game. Just before half time Lily Mills on the Tavistock left broke through a tackle darted back to the centre of the pitch and outpaced the defence to touch down.

The second half was a much more even affair, with the advantage just to Newquay, who drove through the centre stretch over the line and a break-away try from their county flyer on the wing. Eleanor Mills showed great potential and Jess Tait made brave tackles. There were nimble runs from Lauren Abel. This was a superb showing from an inexperienced town side.

In the second half both Oke's forwards and backs kept good shape to maintain the pressure enabling Daichi to slip through and score the first try, converted by James.

Oke were playing well as a team with great rucking from the forwards enabling Kai to pick the ball from the back and pass out through to George. He ran almost the length of the pitch only to be brought down yards from the line, but Nathan took his chance and with one hand scored the second try. The whole team derserve a mention, Tom S for great rucking, Imogen for her strong tackling, Kai for reliable charge downs and also new members Jim for his physical running and Mo for his running.

Tavistock U10s 4 tries

Stonehouse U10s 8 tries

Tavistock got their new season underway against a large and well drilled Stonehouse team. Stonehouse raced into a 3-1 lead with Toby Bower's try being Tavistock's only success. However Ewan, Tom and Logan began to run the ball back hard for Tavistock. Tackling also improved with Daniel, Billy and debutant Matt bravely making tackle after tackle.  The problem for Tavistock was lack of ball, with a lack of technique in the scrum meaning that their powerful runners got less ball than usual. Toby, Daniel and Isaac began to win  a fair share of this crucial area. This meant that Ben, Jonathan and William had some good runs that resulted in two tries for Toby and one of Isaac. Tavistock never gave up with Ewan, Toby L and Katherine also making strong contributions.
