RUNNERS young and old turned out in force to take part in the Peter Tavy Plod 2014 last Bank Holiday Monday. Thankfully, the weather did not dampen the spirits of the competitors as a record number of participants were recorded on the day for this increasingly popular event, that scales moorland paths and woodland trails skirting the picturesque village on the edge of Dartmoor. The eventual winner of the 5 mile event was John Yells from Okehampton in an impressive time of 30 minutes and 1 second with the leading female competitor hot on his heels finishing with a time of 32 minutes and 23 seconds. Once again the winner of the Local Trophy was Steve Watson, clocking a time of 32 minutes and 47 seconds. Alongside the main race was a one-mile fun run, which proved equally as popular this year with the incentive of a medal and goody bag for all runners taking part. The winner of this event was 12-year-old Laura Appleby of Massachussets, USA, in a fantastic time of 6 minutes and 47 seconds. Organisers of the event have expressed thanks to Original Pasty House for sponsoring the event and also to all the marshals, runners and supporters together with Tavy Ales, Tavistock Hire, I Love Candy and the Dix family who helped to make this year's event such a success.
