Tavistock ladies’ seconds 2
Kingsbridge ladies’ seconds 2
IT was a tense atmosphere on the pitch as Tavistock seconds played host to Kingsbridge, with these teams being first and second in the league and both unbeaten.
Kingsbridge had first push back and the top of the table clash began with attacking play from both teams.
The visitors seemed to have the upper hand early on, however Tavistock remained strong and with dominating play from the midfield and defence any chances from Kingsbridge for a goal were soon dealt with.
With high intensity hockey from Tavistock they were soon pushing forward. A superb run from Annalise and a tap into the goal by Jamie, Tavistock scored the first goal of the match.
However, there was no room for complacency as Kingsbridge did not let the goal stop them and they went on the attack. Only some excellent saves by player of the match goalie Lois Thornton kept the score at 1-0 to Tavistock going into the break.
The second half continued like the first with both teams giving 100%. A break by Sophie Russell on goal with a helping hand from Izzy Davis saw Tavistock were 2-0.
Kingsbridge seemed to rally and after numerous attempts on goal their efforts were rewarded to make it 2-1. This was a highly physical and intense game at times with the ball going from one end of the pitch to the other. A last ditch attempt by Kingsbridge saw them get past the goalie to equalise.
It was an exhausting game for both teams but from a supporters perspective the best of the season so far. Tavistock ladies’ seconds should be very proud of themselves.
