TAVISTOCK Squash's first team played an away earlier this month against University Students seconds.
The visitors were represented by Clive Marais, Stuart Cox, Andy Howell, Will Westlake and Colin Grice.
Colin went into a 2-0 lead before his opponent came back hard in the third game but Colin won the fourth game to win 3-1. Will Westlake never really got to grips with his opponent in a 0-3 defeat. Andy Howell won the first two games with his opponent having trouble with returning his serve and went on to win 3-1. Stuart Cox went two games to love down and his opponent even had match point in the third but Stuart fought back to even the match at 2-2. After a great decider with some superb rallies Stuart eventually lost 2-3. Clive Marais never really got into his match losing 0-3. Tavistock man of the match was given to Colin Grice.
Tavistock second team played against University Students' third team. Tavistock were represented by Colin Grice, Richard Baxter, Joe Kuipers, Richard Davies and Matthew Smith.
Matt Smith started off strongly in a tight match before losing 1-3. Richard Davies lost the first game but kept his head and gained in confidence to take the match 3-1.
Joe Kuipers rallied strongly after going 0-2 down to bring the match back to 2-2 but his opponent proved too strong in the end winning the fifth to take the match 3-2.
Richard Baxter's match could have gone either way. At 13-14 down in the fifth his opponent was awarded a 'stroke' and won the match for the students. Colin Grice at number one started off strongly to go 1-0 up, but despite playing some great squash lost 1-3.
Richard Davies was Tavistock man of the match.
