Tavistock seconds 64

Tamar Saracens seconds 0

TAVISTOCK seconds put on a fine display of running rugby when they entertained Plymouth based Tamar Saracens.

Man of the match, second row player Tom Llewellyn, playing on the wing, scored the first try. A second soon followed, scored by centre Chad Brading with one a powerful run. Lock Steve Long forced his way through the opposition defence for the third score and with centre Nick Lane adding two conversions, the visitors found themselves 19-0 down after only 25 minutes.

To their credit, Saracens defended stoutly for the remainder of the half, until Lane finished off a good backs move with a try he converted himself, just before the half time whistle, to bring the score to 26-0 at the interval.

Playing down the slope, Saracens came more into the game for the first part of the second half, but although they mounted the occasional attack. they never really looked like breaking through the resolute Tavistock defence.

The home side continued to look dangerous whenever they got into the opposition half and with the front row of Joe Hair, Ash Toll and Jason Ward dominating in the scrums and the loose play, it was no surprise when Joe Hair grabbled his way over for the next try.

Saracens competed gamely until the final quarter, when they ran out of steam and the home side turned up the pressure and ran in a further five tries in the last 20 minutes. Llewellyn scored two more with his hard, straight running; skipper Joe Pook scored one with a fine finish to another good handling move and thanks to good work from Brading and Lane, touched down his second. Four more conversions brought the final score to 64-0.

Amid all of the try scoring, replacement scrumhalf Liam Mills demonstrated the art of throwing a dummy, which confused his team-mates as well as the opposition.

Although Saracens were not the strongest opponents the seconds have faced this season, nevertheless, it was a good all round squad performance.
