SOME 14 runners from Tavistock took part in the annual off-road Six Moor Miles race last Sunday.
The race starts at Yelverton and runs up and down the Maristow estate in roughly an elongated loop.
The grass was wet in places but generally the going was good but most thought it a tough race in the warm humid air. Many of the Tavistock AC contingent had been running in the Erme Valley relays two days earlier in Ivybridge, including those taking the overall team prize presented by Run Venture.
The male race was won by Jim Cole (in the process of rejoining TAC) and there were a number of other really good TAC efforts, including Samantha Lake coming in at third lady. David Twine was the second TAC member home and 29th male finisher showing the strength of the TAC 60 plus runners. His time of 49 minutes 27 secs put him just a few seconds in front of Pete Bazley and a few of minutes ahead of Andy Houghton and Dave Chanter – all running in the plus 60 category.
Andy was narrowly beaten by Tracy Oxborough F50 after a closely fought race made more exciting when both went sprawling simult-aneously when crossing the same large puddle.
Nicole Heryet had needed to run two of the Erme Valley relays to make up a second team so did especially well to get round in 58.40. John Windemer a regular club supporter at local races also did well in the plus 60.
Club members Gerd Masselink, Jason Shipton, Stuart Ross, Kate Sharman, Sarah Hillson, Sheila Houghton +65 and Sarah Prior, running her first race of this type, all did extremely well in the energy sapping conditions
