TAVISTOCK beat second placed Bridestowe in the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League by 8-2.

This was thanks to another fine maximum from Roger Bowett ably supported by Peter Hicks and Nigel Gildart with two singles each. Roger and Peter won the doubles for the win.

It means that with two games to go Tavistock are the league champions.

North Wkye A played Horrabridge A in a hard fought match which finished in a 5-5 draw.

There was a fine maximum from John Stewart ably supported by Chloe Greenaway with two singles for Horrabridge A. Xubo Chang won two for North Wkye A and Enrique Barota and Jill Whitely one each. Xubo and Enrique won the doubles against Chloe and John for the draw.

The Mixtures took on Okehampton A at home. Nick Jackson, playing his first game of the season, helped his side to a 10-0 win ably supported by John Squire and Steve Madge, the latter having to pull out his best by just beating Karen Stephenson 11-9 in the fifth leg.

John and Nick just beat Karen and Roni Gallardo in flve legs in the doubles for their first 10-0 win of the season.

In the match between Anchorage A and Milton Abbot Tim Westcott put Milton Abbot ahead against Colin Brooker and went onto win his next game. Malcolm Hopkins did well to beat Ottilia Pochat 15-13 in the third leg to level 1-1.

Colin Brooker had to go all the way to overcome Michael Blatchford, just winning 11-7 in the fifth leg Malcolm beat Michael to level at 4-4. Ottilia put Milton Abbot 5-4 ahead in the last singles against Colin Jones, winning 11-7 in the fifth leg. Tim and Ottilia won the doubles against Colin Brooker and Malcolm for a 6-4 victory for Milton Abbot.

In division two Okehampton C secured the division two title with their latest 8-2 win against North Wyke B. Mark Tooth beat both Josh Parsons and Emily Haskell to save the whitewash. Cameron Brooking won all his singles to secure his ninth maximum of the season. He only lost one game and won the other eleven. This was their first season in the league.

The next match Okehampton B were at home against Horrabridge B whose Raz Nilson did well to win all three singles to score his first maximum of the season.

Gill Northey, David Stewart and Lesley Coleman all won two singles for Horrabridge. Jill and David won the doubles for a 7-3 win for Horrabridge.

The last division two match Horrabridge B were at home to Moretonhampstead. Ken Underhill put Moreton 1-0 ahead but had to pull out all the stops against Jill Northey just winning 11-7 in the fifth leg. Wes Cutler won the next in a hard fought game against David Stewart and Brian Skilton won the next against Alex Cunningham to lead 3-0 and Moreton went on to win the next six singles and the doubles for their first 10-0 win of the season. Horrabridge fought hard for a very hard fought match.
