Trelawney two
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 3
Plymouth Marjons ladies’ fourths 4
IT was the Plymouth team who took early control of the match with deft tackling and good use of the width of the pitch leaving Oke mainly playing a defensive game.
Despite several excellent saves from their goalkeeper, Daisy Morgan, the first half ended with Okehampton trailing by two goals.
After a team talk at half time from captain, Rochelle Woollacott, Okehampton re-entered play with renewed determination. Marjons though also returned in attacking form and, despite strong defensive play from Joey Drake, Lois Rowlands and Nicky Pedrick, mistakes in the circle resulted in short corners given away. Marjons capitalised to increase their lead to 4-0.
It was not until late into the game that Oke found their form and confidence with quick attacking play down the centre of the field through Sophie Tripp and Georgie Stanistead; this allowed Sarah Bazeley to capitalise on a rebound from the keeper to open the scoring for the home team. This ignited the attack for Okehampton and, within minutes, strong midfield play from Elsa Frangleton, Melissa Pinfield and Emily Rowlands saw the ball finding Okehampton player of the match, Larissa Goodger; she was perfectly positioned to hammer the ball into the back of the net.
With Oke now having everything to play for, the defenders and midfielders worked the ball down the left side of the pitch, where a strong pass into the circle again found Larissa on the post to score Okehampton’s third goal. With only minutes left to play, Okehampton were desperate to equalise but, despite strong play and excellent passing, were unable to escape the Marjons’ defenders to secure the draw they deserved.
