Tavistock third 49

Bideford thirds 15

TAVISTOCK fielded a third senior team for the first time this season with Martin Credicott captaining a mixture of veterans and less experienced players in an entertaining contest.

Tavistock always held the upper hand and ran in three early tries through full-back Gregg Fairchild; winger Brennan Drewitt and hooker Paddy Warlow.

The home side then lost concentration for a brief period, allowing Bideford to get back into the game with two tries of their own. Tavistock then switched back on and Fairchild scored his second try, and the first half ended with Tavistock leading 22-10.

Playing down the slope, Tavistock spent much of the second half on the attack and scored a further five tries. Winger Brennan Drewitt scored two more to complete a hat-trick and was a constant threat.

Credicott finished off a fine handling move and centre Andrew Sweeney capped a good all round performance with two tries. The strong wind made it a difficult day for kicking, but scrumhalf Liam Mills, who had a fine game, added two conversions. Bideford made the occasional foray into the Tavistock half and from one of these, picked up a third try.

Tavistock forwards Tom Dawe, Lee Easton, Tom Charlesworth and Jude Rotton all put in good shifts. Newcomer James Hardman showed up well and the front row of Chris John; Paddy Warlow and Shaun Boulton scrummaged well against heavier opponents.
