Plymouth Marjons ladies’ fourths 3

Okehampton ladies’ thirds 1

OKEHAMPTON ladies’ third team travelled to Plymouth for a hockey game on Saturday morning hoping to gain some league points from this fixture.

Oke started well attacking in style. They soon got the first goal with a well worked team move involving Louise Watts, Emily Rowlands and finally Oke player of the match Larissa Goodger, who hammered the ball into the back of the net.

Marjons replied with a quick equaliser when a lapse in the Oke defence left an attacker free to slot the ball into the side of the goal.

Marjons then increased the tempo of the game with nifty stick work from their midfielders allowing them to feed quality balls to their forwards.

The Marjons second goal was unfortunate for Oke when the ball caught a defender’s stick in the circle and flew up into the top of the net.

Oke rose to the challenge in the second half with wave after wave of attack. Maddie Arden at right wing penetrated the Marjons’ defence but their experienced and dominant goal keeper came out into the circle and won the ball on several occasions before a shot could be taken.

The last quarter of the game belonged to the Marjons team as they pushed their team forward towards the Oke goal. Strong tackling from Melissa Pinfield helped to keep Marjons at bay but they managed to slot in a third goal before the final whistle.
