SPOONERS and West Dartmoor Pony Club member Kelcey Pillage is hoping to follow in the successful footsteps of West Devon Olympic medallists Heather Fell and Kate Allenby. Kelcey, aged 19, has been chosen to represent Great Britain in an international tetrathlon in Australia next month after growing success in the modern pentathlon on the European stage. Tetrathlon consists of shooting, swimming, horse riding and running and Kelcey is hoping to raise £3,000 to participate in the Australia event as, unlike the modern pentathlon, the discipline does not attract the funding from British Olympics sources. The talented sportswoman was trained to shoot by Kate Allenby's mother Gill. Kelcey is appealing to local sponsors to help her cover air fares, accommodation, equipment, transport and expenses. She said: 'I have worked really hard to attempt to raise this money , while also revising and studying for my A levels which I am sitting at the moment. As you can imagine, combining academic work, training for four sporting disciplines and trying to raise so much money at my age and with such a lack of experience, is a very tall order indeed.' Kelcey has organised raffles and last week held a quiz night at the Walkhampton Village Hall to try and raise funds. She is grateful for donations from Spooners and others but is a long way off from paying for this special event, which happens only once every two years.
