Marjons ladies 3

Okehampton ladies 1

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Plymouth for the first of two weekend fixtures looking for goals against Marjons.

Oke started strongly, determined to make their mark. Their attacking mentality paid off when Rochelle Wiseman found herself unmarked in front of the keeper, smashing home the first goal of the match to put the visitors into the lead.

The game was not over and end to end play throughout from both teams resulted in an exciting match, but Oke were once again disappointed not to walk away with any points with the final score 3-1 to Marjons. Okehampton look to rally after the Christmas break and Marjons are certainly one of the teams in their sights to be beaten at home.

Player of the match for Oke was Jess Moyse for her superb efforts in the midfield.

Plymouth University ladies 3

Okehampton ladies’ firsts 1

ON the Sunday Okehampton took the game to a powerful Plymouth side with wings Hannah Whiteley and Ellie Shayler speedily running the lines and working the ball towards the opposition D with tireless help from Molly Marvin. However a well organised Plymouth side mopped up any loose balls and began their own attack on Okehampton and began the scoring.

The pressure in the Oke half resulted in penalty corners being given away, with Nicky Pedrick once again saving goals left right and centre. Captain Sophie Whiteley bravely put her body on the line to keep goals out of the net, but this unfortunately resulted in not one but two penalty flicks being awarded. Keeper Alice Wiseman stepped up and excellent keeping only allowed one conversion much to the University’s frustration.

Oke’s tough defence of Laura Parsons and Amanda Sim continued to control the defence, but a sometimes unstoppable Plymouth continued to force their way in. Oke picked up the pace and were determined to get a goal past the Uni keeper. A well worked attack from Kim Davey on the right smashing a ball through to forward Elly Jenkins on the 25 yard mark with support from Lesley Bingham looked like an excellent goal scoring opportunity; however play was stopped for an injury elsewhere on the pitch. Despite this Okehampton soldiered on, never giving up.

Oke’s player of the match Jess Moyse thwarted many Plymouth attacks in relentless pursuit of the ball, getting it through to forward Emily Rowlands whose weaving runs tested the Plymouth defence.

Plymouth were a well drilled side near the top of the league above Oke leaving the final score at 6-0, but Okehampton should not be disheartened by their efforts and were well spirited throughout with excellent team play.
