TAVISTOCK 2nds entertained Yelverton 2nds in a local derby on Saturday — and winning the toss opted to bat.

Wickets fell steadily during the innings, nobody really getting to grips with the low bounce. Yet again young James White, only 12, batted as well as anyone with a top score of 29, before being one of five victims for Chris Vinson. Some poor shots and tight bowling saw Tavistock struggle to 141 all out. Marc Webber batted well for his 25 not out but it looked only a par score. Chris Vinson's 5-29 and Ben Spear's 2-19 checked the batsmen while Chris Pearson's 8-5-4-0 was exceptional for accuracy.

Mark Hopkins and James White made early inroads into the Yelverton batting; Hopkins 9-6-9-4 was superb and they were soon 18-4.

Sam Betts and Ben Spear rescued the situation and took the total to 76. Ben Russell came on and took two quick wickets and Yelverton slumped to 110 all out despite Spears' 39 not out. Tavistock bowled well as a unit and considering they were missing four players can be pleased with their effort.

Tavistock 17 points, Yelverton 6 points.
