ALL good things must come to an end, and It was only a matter of time before Conservative A’s unbeaten season in the Tavistock Snooker League.

Their run came to an end, fittingly, with a good team effort from Tavy A that achieved it.

A father and son battle was the first mouth-watering encounter with Con A’s Tommy Evans and Tavy A’s Mark Evans drawn out of the hat. On this occasion it was junior, Mark Evans that took father’s unbeaten run and nicked it on the pink in an otherwise uninspiring game.

Dolan then stretched Tavy A’s lead as he took the lead and fought off attempts from Bell to get back at him.

The win for Tavy A came from another of the Con A’s unbeaten players losing their record, this time Carruthers falling to Dean Anderson. In a game of cat and mouse it was Anderson who built an early lead and despite Carruthers coming back at him several times he held on, potting what was needed to secure the point and match for his side.

The final two frames were then secured by the Con A’s with Babb and Wiles never really encountering too many problems as they reduced Tavy A’s three frame lead to just one.

These last two frames were significant as they took the Con A’s out of reach of West Devon A to secure the top league spot for the sixth time in nine seasons with still two matches to go.

With the second of two 5-0 wins in as many weeks Conservative Z have finally found their form, albeit late in the season.

First to the table was Lillicrap (senior) for Con Z against R Rich of West Devon B, in a comfortable win against an error prone opponent.

Fitzsimmons had a slightly more troublesome frame against Hooper but managed a strong finish to take the game.

J Rich had a flying start against a hesitant Mayors but eventually succumbed to the latter’s persistence and potting skills.

McKechnie (junior) had an easier time against Gilchrist who struggled throughout to keep up.

Bluett had a closer game against Hodge who never really looked to be in trouble, despite Bluett racking up his teams highest score of the evening.
