THE top of the Tavistock Snooker League table clash between West Devon A, and second place Tavy A, went very much as expected with only one frame separating the two Giants, on this occasion it was Tavy A that edged it.

Hicks for Tavy managed to put his side one up riding his luck at times but doing enough to shade the ‘never say die’ Morris. Tavy A were soon two up with Dean Anderson going on a veritable potting spree with 25, 23 and 21 breaks to leave Taylor reeling.

The comeback for West Devon started with Anderson inflicting a rare defeat on Tavy A skipper Evans, followed by Kevin Rich extending his unbeaten run with a good win over Bradley Anderson.

With it all set up nicely for the decider it was Dent for Tavy A that fought off a late spirited comeback from Heathman to pinch the frame and the match for Tavy A and with it top spot in the league on ‘goal difference’.

Third place Conservative A went quietly about their business, cruising to a 5-0 win at West Devon B, further reducing their gap behind the top two.

Roger Rich for West Devon gave it a good go but was unable to hold Con A’s Carruthers, and likewise could be said for the next game with Daniel Rich giving Con’s Evans (22) a run for his money before Evans eventually sealed it. The third Rich of West Devon however had a harder job of it, and was powerless to match the precision play of Wiles, who with a 27 break was just too strong for him.

Bell made it four for Con A as he shook off some indifferent play this season, keeping his composure, to take the prize scalp of arguably West Devon’s best player, Hoar. The final frame was all about Babb as he racked up 99 points in a one sided affair against West Devon’s Bluett as he provided the final piece of the Con A’s maximum jigsaw.

Conservative C achieved a remarkable first with Conservative Z .... a victory, which shows just how much the C team have improved this season. Jankowski of the Z team had a tepid game, by his standards against Cleave who took his opponent to a black ball game and an eventual well deserved win. Davies for Con C team gained another point against the normally industrious Flack (Junior).

Brief respite was gained by Hall for the Z team with his most skilful game of the season against the Con C captain Jago who failed to match Halls aggressive and direct approach.

The normally reliable Mayors struggled against Davey for Con C and if it had not been for the extraordinary number ’in offs’ from Davey the result could and should have been different but as it was Mayors kept his head and eventually took the point.

The final result was eventually to be decided by Bassett of Con C and Symons of the Z team. Bassett took control from the off and Symons struggled to keep in touch throughout a rather one-sided encounter.
