THREE talented young athletes from Tavistock took part in the challenging Team Triathlon at Roadford Lake.

This was a very competitive event, with the Devon and Cornwall Police entering an impressive six teams.

Pete Jarman, Will Johnson (both 16) and James Best, 17, took part in the Olympic distance relay triathlon as team Tavy Massive.

They each had to complete one leg of the triathlon before handing over the baton to the next team member.

For the first leg Pete Jarman had to swim 1,500 metres of the lake followed by a 100m run up a steep hill to transition.  Pete, a member of Tavistock Swimming Club, stayed with the lead group of swimmers and left the water in an impressive second position.

Will Johnson, a member of Tavistock Wheelers Cycle Club took to his bike for the second leg of the relay.  Will had to cycle a challenging distance of 40k on the roads around the Lake.  Will had a great race, maintaining the second position for the team.

James Best took the baton for the third leg of the team triathlon.  James had to run 10k on a mixture of road and track paths  around the country park.  James had an excellent run and managed to take the lead and led the team to a superb first place.

This was a great achievement as it was the first time the three athletes had taken part in a relay triathlon.  Pete, Will and James are all members of Tavistock Athletic Club.
