THE Tavistock Swimming Club open men's team showed an impressive display in the 4x50m freestyle relay event at the City of Plymouth Champ-ionships.

The team of Kieran Rookes, Nathaniel Rookes, Matt Edwards and Gareth Williams were up against tough opposition in the form of teams from Kelly College, Kingsbridge Kingfishers, Plymouth Leander and the Tavistock SC 'B' team.

Swimming the first leg was Kieran Rookes, who gave Tavistock the lead, with a personal best time. He handed over to his brother Nathaniel, who produced a good swim to equal the time by Kieran.

Tavistock were hotly pursued by Kingsbridge but Matt swam the third leg superbly to maintain the lead and hand over to Gareth, who brought the team home to victory, just 0.03 seconds outside the championship record.

Rounding off the excellent performance by the 'A' team, the 'B' team comprising of James Anderson, Gavin Ball, Luke Stephens and Harry Thompson gave an outstanding swim to finish fifth in this championship final.
