IN the annual Devon County Inter-Club Gala held at the Plymouth Life Centre earlier this month, Tavistock Swimming Club finished ninth in the overall competition —one place up from its 2013 result. The competition gave the relatively small team of 19 swimmers the opportunity to compete against the larger county clubs. It also produced a large number of personal best times for the Tavistock swimmers - 18 from the 32 individual events. Gemma Arundel in the 100m backstroke and Jessamy Clemens in the 100m butterfly recorded personal best times with an improvement of at least five seconds over their previous recorded best. In terms of top three finishes – these were achieved by Jake France, who was first in the 13 and under boys' 50m freestyle and third in the 50m backstroke and Matt Edwards, first in the 16 and over 100m freestyle and a third place in the male 100m fly. There were also close to podium finishes for Luke Stephens and Emily France who both gained fourth places in the 15 and under 100m breaststroke and in the 11 and under 50m freestyle respectively. Also competing for Tavistock SC were Sam Bates, Callum Burden, Yvonne Carpenter-Warren, Iain Chalmers, Harriet Edwards, Amber Francis, Alfie Morgan, George Morgan, Elena Prior, Nathaniel Rookes, Izzy Teague, Sarah Teague and Bethany Thompson. Tavistock Swimming Club welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities, so if you are interested in joining, visit the club website http://www.tavsc.co.uk">www.tavsc.co.uk
