Devon B
Tavistock v Lewdown
TOP of the table Lewdown visited Tavistock in the league having lost only once all season. That loss being against Tavistock in the reverse fixture. Tavistock are a bogey team for Lewdown, having lost on eight of the nine matches between the sides recently.
Winning the toss Lewdown elected to bat first. The innings started slowly until Travis Muller bowled David Ball in the seventh over. This bought Marco Marais, fresh from his 200 the previous week to the crease. Marais admitted to being a little nervous as he only needed 11 runs to reach 1,000 runs in the League for the season. He hit the ball in the air twice before being caught for 13 off the bowling of Chris Hutchins.
Once again the Tavistock spinners of Sean Cleave (2 wickets), Shaun Daymond 1 and Jamie Stephens (3), took control of the middle overs of the game.
Phil Yeo with 30 top scored for Lewdown in posting 185 all out.
After the break Tavistock opened with Ian Gray (28), is having a fine season, who added 62 for the first wicket with Aaron Churchill.
Devon star Rhys Davies was lbw for 4, but this bought influential Dave Manning to the crease. Together with Churchill, they played sensibly, just milking the bowling adding 79 for the third wicket before Manning fell for 37.
In his best innings of the season. Churchill carried his bat for a fine 59, with skipper Shaun Daymond chipping in with 14 at the end.
This was a very composed performance from Tavistock in winning by seven wickets.
