IN what seemed a bright start for Conservative Z team, Hodge (24) held Babb of Conservative A in an extremely close cat and mouse Tavistock Snooker League game to put the Z team in the driving seat.
The initial euphoria was short lived however, when McKechnie (senior) met Carruthers. McKechnie’s visits to the table were brief as Carruthers (38 and 33) notched up a splendid 92 score line with two breaks of more than 30. Wiles (20) of Con A had a tougher opponent in Fitzsimmons, who took it to the wire in a black ball game before putting the white in off the black.
Mayors had an ‘off night’ as Endean of the A team ran riot with little or no response from his opponent. Evans of the A team took the last frame from Wright in a tightly contested match, and if Wright could have potted a few colours along with the reds it could have been a different outcome.
With several of their better players missing this was always going to be a tall order for Golf A and West Devon A were quick to take advantage.
The first frame saw West Devon’s Brookes (21) continuing his devastating run of form, giving Doidge no chance whatsoever. Taylor made it two for West Devon as he battled out his frame with Pope to a successful conclusion.
The lead was further stretched as Heathman clicked into some decent form with a solid win over Golf A’s new player Dodd.
Kevin Rich (29) soon had the scoreline reading four in favour of West Devon A with a comprehensive victory over Ninnisl.
Turnbull on last prevented a total ‘white wash’ as he grafted out a good win over WD A’s Morris with the game being in the balance until colours where Turnbull came good.
Conservative C were unable to put much of a dent in to a strong Tavy A outfit, going down 1-4.
Neale gave it his best shot but the return of Hicks to Tavy A gave them the frame in a close encounter. Dean Anderson had no trouble in his frame as he romped past Bassett in quick time with pleasing to watch 31 and 29 breaks reflecting his dominance.
The only smile for the Con C came with Davey edging out in form Dolan in a close one.
The final frame saw the final touches of a good night for Tavy A with skipper Evans (20) taking the spoils from Con C’s skipper Jago.
