THREE runners from Tavistock Athletic Club all competed in, and completed the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra Marathon race on Saturday.

The race has a reputation for being one of the toughest marathons around as it winds its way across Dartmoor hills and vales for over 32-miles before returning to its start at Princetown.

All three runners did particularly well, especially considering the torrential rain that fell in the afternoon. Jason Shipton, who was raising money for the Triangle Centre, was first Tavistock runner home in 96th place (5 hours 30 minutes 10 seconds) followed less than a minute later by TracyAnn Cole who was winner of the ladies’ veteran 45 category and 99th overall (5.31.01). Just a few minutes behind them and finishing 110th overall, was Pete Bazley who picked up second in the men’s veteran 60 category (5.39.54).
