Exmouth U18s 15

THIS was a superb display of open rugby which the score would suggest was one-sided, but Exmouth played their part in an entertaining match.

Initially, the Exmouth tackling against some powerful running by Tavistock's Kim Upcott and Emily Kneale was lacking in technique and commitment and allowed Alice Upcott to break through after three minutes play to score under the posts. Anabel Longdon added the points for the first of her seven conversions.

Tavistock scored with tries by the three-quarters, Bronwyn Rundle, Lauren Dawe and Shannon. Each of these tries was classic rugby; possession grabbed from the loose by the forwards, passed to the backs and swift off-loading generating space for the outside halves to score.

Exmouth responded with a penalty followed by some good passing rugby allowed them to break through the Tavistock defence to score. The order was soon restored when Emily Kneale crashed through the centre to score for Tavistock just before half time.

After the re-start four more tries were scored by Tavistock: two from Lauren Dawe, and one each from Alice Upcott and Avril Trehane.

A resurgence by Exmouth resulted in equal scores in the last 10 minutes with two tries by Exmouth and tries by Bronwyn Rundle and Shannon for Tavistock.

Tavistock scrum half Flo Rodgers was instrumental in most of the scores. s
