Tavistock men's firsts 2

TAVISTOCK maintained their promotion push with an away win against Plymouth University, in what was expected to be a tough game for the visitors — and the students did not disappoint.

The league leaders were bolstered by the late addition of captain Tom Honey and versatile attacker Barny Megicks due the cancellation of the Mount Kelly School fixtures.

As expected the students played a fast paced, direct counter-attacking game and although looked dangerous, they failed to create any clear cut chances in the first half.

In what was a fairly even first 35 minutes it was the reds who went in to the break with a 1-0 lead following a penalty corner move which was converted by leading scorer Si Fenwick after a pass from Andy Berry.

The second half carried on in much the same way with both sides looking to attack at pace. The university side looked more clinical in the attacking third than they did in the first half and did win a number of penalty corners but were unable to beat Matt Graham in the Tavistock goal — Graham showing the form that makes it clear to see why Tavistock have the best defensive record in the league.

The reds had a number of chances on goal and could have extended their lead had it not been for the university keeper who was proving extremely hard to beat.

Tavistock did get their second goal  when Honey won the ball on the edge of the D before exchanging passes with Fenwick and slotting the ball into the net.

Plymouth University maintained their attacking philosophy but were unable to score a consolation goal.
