THE Palairet Trophy, one of the most prestigious trophies in the county, was won by a Tavistock Golf Club team captained by Alan Gawman.

The Palairet is the men's interclub team championship of Devon and throughout the knock-out competition Tavistock did not lose a match.  The semi-finals and finals were played at Thurlestone and the Tavistock team continued their unbeaten record to take the trophy.  A delighted team captain Alan Gawman praised his team for their excellent play and their competitive spirit.

He said: 'I want to thank Rob Jarman, Paul Crump and Duncan File who played in the earlier rounds, the caddies and all those who came and supported us — their support and encouragement on the day was just great!'

The championship was founded by Lionel Palairet who was the first chairman of the Devon County Golf Union in 1911; he was also county captain and became president of the union from 1923 until 1932.  His trophy has always been keenly contested over the years and was last won by Tavistock in 1998.
