TAVISTOCK Golf Club Ladies  achieved a great win at the Devon County Ladies Golf Association South West Foursomes when they won the Western Morning News Rosebowl. 

Held this year at Yelverton the SW Foursomes incorporate the inter club Rosebowl competition for which clubs nominate three pairs to represent them with the two best scores to count. 

Club lady captain Patty Congo certainly made an excellent choice when her chosen team scored 67 pts.  In the foursomes Tavistock also took fourth, sixth, eighth, ninth and tenth prizes.  

A delighted captain thanked those who were so successful in this year's competition but she gave special thanks to all the Tavistock players that took part.  This is Tavistock's second win in two years. 

For the fourth time in five years Alan Gawman became Tavistock Golf Club's men's champion with a two under par over 36 holes.  Runner up was Chris Gawman with plus two over par but Alan did not have it all his way.  In the first round Chris scored a nett 69 and Alan nett 71, however,i n the second round Alan had a nett 69 to take the Championship by four shots despite a double bogey on the sixth. 

In the Ladies Foursomes Cup winners Grace Tucker and Dawn Phillott had a nett 75 with runners up Barbara Chalk and Jayne Wright on nett 76.  Jayne also had a good round in the Goddard Smith Trophy when she was first in division one with a nett 73 to take the trophy and second Dawn Phillott nett 74. 

Barbara Chalk was first in division two with nett 75 on countback from Lynn Swift and in third place was Ann Dawson nett 76 on countback from Sam Avens.  Lynn Swift scored an excellent nett 65 in the England Golf Medal.  Ann Dawson took second place with nett 67 on countback. 

In the men's one club, one putter Tony Rawlinson had 33 pts, second was Phil Harbutt with 30 pts and in third place was Mike Watkins with 29 pts.  Chris Morley won the men veterans Bill Briant Trophy with nett 65 and in second place Ken Cole with  a nett 70.

n In the Coronation finals held at Launceston the Tavistock team of Wendy George and  Alison West were second missing first place by one shot!
