Exmouth Town 5

Tavistock AFC 0

THE Lambs suffered another heavy defeat against Exmouth Town, who are having a fine season, currently in second place in the league table.

The score line flattered the home team as there was no score at the interval. The visitors competed well in an even first half. Both teams played attractive football but it was the defences were basically in control.

Both Ansell and Dan Boere went close for Exmouth while Jack Crago could have snatched the lead for the Lambs just before the interval.

The opening goal was always going to be a decisive factor in this game, with the Lambs on such a poor run of form. It came just three minutes into the second half when Ansell headed home a cross from Adam Fowler. This really shook the Lambs and Ansell repeated the trick when two minutes later he headed home from Ian Patchett's corner kick.

The home team were now the dominant force and put the visitors' defence under pressure as the Lambs were limited to counter attacks. Tavistock almost reduced the deficit when Ian Rooke's fine header hit the cross bar in the 78th minute.

Within a minute the home team added the third goal when Lloyd Gardener converted a penalty kick after being tripped in the penalty area, to end any chances of a comeback. Two minutes later things were worse for the visitors when High headed home the fourth goal for Exmouth.

The scoring was completed two minutes from time when High outpaced the Lambs' defence before slotting home past the advancing Dean Smith.

In the first half the Lambs were as good as their hosts, but in the second period the home team were dominant after they had opened the scoring and showed why they are genuine title contenders.

The Lambs now need to regroup and prepare for this week's important home game.
