Tavistock 14
Truro 34
FOR the third match in a row, Tavistock took an early lead but they could not maintain it and the visitors left with the win and a try bonus point.
The early exchanges were fairly even with both sides probing each other's defence. A Dan Luffman break saw him reach the visitors 22 but the ball got knocked on. From the scrum Tavistock were awarded a penalty and after a couple of rucks the ball was worked to Mark Friend who powered through the visitors defence to touchdown. Rich Goldsby-West converted.
This seemed to galvanise the visitors but their attempts to break through were thwarted by some dogged Tavistock tackling and the visitors had to settle for three points from a penalty kick.
The visitors took the lead when following several phases of play they got the ball away to touchdown in the corner.
Both teams were having problems keeping possession but breaks by Duncan Law, Andy Griffiths and Dan Oner came to nothing as the ball was either lost in the tackle or knocked on.
On the stroke of half time the visitors increased their lead. From a Tavistock scrum, five metres from their own line, the ball shot out and one of the Truro pack dived made enough of a touch for the referee to award a try.
The second half started in some style as Tavistock wing Danny Luffman scored a superb individual try. Taking the ball in his own half, his weaving run through the visitor's defensive lines went unchecked and he rounded the last defender to touchdown under the posts. Rich Goldsby-West converted.
Truro hit straight back as a catch and drive from a five metre lineout saw them go over. After a period of loose possession from both sides, Mark Friend's pass got Lewis Edwards away and he got to the visitors twenty two before being tackled into touch. Truro then increased their lead as the ball was flipped out from a scrum for them to go over.
Tavistock were having problems keeping possession and it was only some great saving tackles that kept the visitors at bay. The final try came as a scrum in the Tavistock midfield broke down and the visitors broke to go in under the posts to wrap up the win.
