Tavistock 8

East Devon 1

DESPITE the 4-2 win away at East Devon earlier in the season the league leaders were expecting a tough game against a side who play good, structured hockey. With the game tied at 1-1 at half time the visitors pressed the home side and denied them time on the ball.

Tavistock took the lead when Mark Forshaw flicked a penalty corner low and hard past the keeper. Before the home side had a chance to build on the lead the visitors drew level following some fine individual skill and a shot, which beat Grahame in the Tavistock goal.

The first ten minutes of the second half followed the pattern of the first with the home side having the majority of the possession but it was a moment of individual skill that changed the game. Former Mount Kelly student Barney Megicks ran 60 yards with the ball, beating several players before his reverse stick shot passed the keeper at the far post.

The goal kick started the Reds and soon after, Forshaw claimed his second game with another trademark thunderbolt that the keepr did not get close to saving.

From this point the goals just kept coming,

Will Jones, diving in at the far post, scored the fourth after Forshaw set up his fellow front man; the ever impressive Richards scored the fifth, after he won the ball in midfield and exchanged passes with Forshaw before deflecting the ball in with his reverse stick.  Skipper Tom Honey found himself unmarked in the D and was able to slap the ball home for the sixth goal before Dom Stanbury added another.

The final goal was scored by Richards who slipped the ball past the advancing keepr from a tight angle.
