Tavistock firsts v Chudleigh

ON a drying wicket visitors Chudleigh were asked to bat first and were soon in trouble.

Debutant David Milligan took two wickets in his first two overs and with a wicket from Travis Muller, Chudleigh were in trouble at 11-3.

Day and Clarke took responsibility and batted sensibly and for the next 25 overs scored at three an over. This foundation allowed them to accelerate in the final 20 overs allowing them to set a challenging 218 to win.

In reply, Tavistock again lost an early wicket, with last week's centurion Ian Gray, run out without facing a ball. Aaron Churchill 28 and Tim Pope 20 steadied the ship against accurate bowling.

Three quick wickets bought Sean Cleave and Shaun Daymond to the wicket. They added 63 before Cleave was out for 25. Daymond continued to bat with intent, as was required by a run rate of eight an over.

On 78 from 67 balls he was unluckily run out at the non-strikers end when backing up. Tavistock eventually all out for 185.
