Tavistock 3
Duchy 1
THIS certainly turned out to be the tough test Tavistock were expecting but despite being put under more pressure than normal the Reds were still able to maintain their 100% start to the season.
Tavistock started well when they took the lead inside ten minutes; following some good link up play between Fenwick and Honey it was Megicks who deflected a reverse stick effort from Fenwick past the Duchy keeper.
Continued pressure led to the home side winning a number of penalty corners, and when Forshaw’s goal bound effort struck a foot on the line the umpire was left with no choice but to award a penalty stroke. This was converted by Fenwick for his fifth goal of the season.
Shortly before half time Duchy had a goal disallowed from a penalty corner.
The second half saw the visitors determined to score and get back into the game and they did score a deserved goal following a quick counter attack down the left; when the ball was struck into the D its was a Duchy forward who reacted quickest to deflect the ball high into the net past Matt Grahame.
Following a green card for Marchant and a yellow card for Wood in the first half, Tavistock frontman Fenwick also received a yellow card mid way through the second half which piled the pressure on the home side; the experience of Honey in the midfield helped to weather the storm.
Having just returned to full strength and with just less than ten minutes remaining Megicks was yellow carded so yet again Tavistock were down to ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage Honey, Femwick and Stanbury linked well on the right to open up the Duchy defence.
Stambury’s ball across the D found Forshaw unmarked to claim his fifth goal of the season and seal the victory for Tavistock.
