Tavistock 5
Okehampton 1
THE game started well for Tavistock with Tom Honey taking Okehampton by surprise and scoring in the first five minutes.
Stung by this early goal, Okehampton increased the pace and what followed was an intense few minutes both sides battling for an advantage over the other. Eventually, a few rapid passes allowed the away side to set up a strike on goal, which despite Tavistock keeper Matt Greyham's best efforts, looped into the air and fell just below the crossbar for the equaliser.
Tavistock increased their passing rate and through some fast exchanges between the Stanbury brothers in the middle and the outside backs, Rory Carr passed to Tom Honey who outmanoeuvred the Oke keeper, to score Tavistock's second. Soon after, Ollie Richards outran his mark allowing him the opportunity to slip away a second goal for the home side.
Okehampton came back but failed to score from their breakaway runs and short corners. Tavistock increased the pressure on the opposition's defensive line and a Tavistock short corner, ending the first half of the game, resulted in a third goal from Simon Fenwick.
At the start of the second half Okehampton attempted to come out 'all guns blazing', however the Tavistock players were ready for just such a retaliation and allowed Okehampton to wear themselves down, eventually retaking control of the game.
Fraser Bayliss hammered home a fourth goal for Tavistock after finding himself in possession after a successful string of passes. He was also instrumental in setting up a fifth goal for Tavistock with a controlled lay-off which found Simon Fenwick, who knocked his second past the keeper.
