Devon B Tavistock v Barnstaple and Pilton UNBEATEN at The Ring this season, Tavistock firsts welcomed Barnstaple and Pilton in a game they needed to win with the pack closing in on the push for promotion. Losing the toss Tavistock batted first on a green wicket with rain in the air. New opener Freddie Jayarajah looked the part, and together with in form Ian Gray, put on 46 for the first wicket. While Gray was on his way to a fine 62 before being run out at the non striker's end in backing up, Shaun Daymond (37) took the second wicket to 142. Enter Dave Manning and Sean Cleave; both batted sensibly to start, respecting the opposition captain's tidy off spin. Once settled, they targeted the other bowlers and proceeded to smash 62 and 51 respectively with Cleave hitting the biggest six seen at The Ring in recent years, with the ball disappearing into the ferns and gorse. 283-4 was an impressive total from the home tea. After team Tavistock decided to go hard with the new ball and be patient if early wickets did not fall. Once again, Thokozani Peter (1-29) and Lee Baker (2-15) set the game up, both bowling through their allotted nine overs, whereby Barnstaple were struggling at 46-3. With three quality spinners, Tavistock were always going to pose the batsmen a challenge - Jamie Stephens (2-19), Sean Cleave (2-22) and Shaun Daymond (2-32) duly wrapped up the innings with an impressive 142 winning margin.
