TAVISTOCK A 2
OLD PLYMOUTH MANNAMEADIANS 7
TAVISTOCK hosted a fast, well disciplined OPM team who are vying for promotion.
OPMs set out to stamp their authority in the game but Tavistock were not giving anything away and countered well to start with.
By half time however, a key difference between the teams was evident. OPMs had strength in depth on the attack and took their chances well, having netted four goals by the break.
A high quality back- stick strike from Will Jones was the only consolation for Tavistock despite several attacks into the D and they started 4-1 down as the second half got underway.
Merchant retired with a hamstring injury, weakening the Tavistock back line.
The home side had no option but to attack, but were immediately punished with a quick goal on the rebound.
Tavistock rallied, Jake and Luke Walker with Isaac Staig leading the way by creating opportunities from the midfield. OPMs capitalised on the break again however, overwhelming the thinned-down Tavistock defence and adding two more goals to their tally.
Tavistock won four penalty corners but only one was converted, again by Jones, and they simply lacked the finishing power to match the opportunities they created.
The final score of 7-2 did not reflect the hard-fought game but did highlight the value of quality finishing.
