ON Sunday a small team of Tavistock Athletic Club juniors travelled to Dawlish for the first round of the Sportshall League.

This event is a  great opportunity for the juniors to have fun with their club team mates as they strive to achieve personal bests in sprints, jumps and throws whilst continuing to improve their athletic skills over the winter.

There were some great performances from the team, with many having moved up an age group this year, and five club records were broken in the process.

Now competing as U15s, Joe Wheeler continued his great form from last year, winning his two lap and six lap races in new record times whilst Emily Sleep equalled the club record with her performance in the speed bounce.

In the U13 age group, Nicolas Maczugowski completed a trio of victories in the six lap race, shot put and a record-breaking leap in the standing triple jump. Team mate Bea Kinnear broke a 17-year-old club record as she leapt to victory in the vertical jump.

Next month will see the team return to Dawlish to compete in the Devon County Championships.
