THE Okehampton and district table tennis league started again with the Bill Fogerty Trophy. Last year's winners Okehampton A beat Tavistock in the final to retain the trophy.

The league started on October 28 — the first match in division one Tavistock were at home to last year's division two winners Milton Abbot A. Fred Phillips easily beat Ian Osbourne in the first game to put Tavistock 1-0 ahead and went on to complete a fine maximum.

The next was a hard fought game between Roger Bowkett and Tim Westcott who did well to level at 1-1. Fred, Roger and Peter Hicks then stepped up and won the next eight games for a convincing 9-1 win.

The next match, Academy took on Anchorage A Tom Pearce, Ben Hill, Tom Pengelly proved too strong for Malcolm Hopkins, Colin Jones and Dave Wilson with a convincing 10-0 win.

In division two Moretonhampstead were at home to Okehampton B who could only field two players. Moretonhampstead took a 5-0 lead before Raz Wilson beat Richard Underhill in straight sets and Mark Ralph also beat Richard in a close game 3-2. Ken Underhill and Brian Skilton were both unbeaten for a 7-2 lead. Ken and Brian won the doubles to make the score 8-2 to Moretonhampstead. Mark and Raz both played very well, despite their disabilities.

In the last division two match Horrabridge played Okehampton C. John Stewart put Horrabridge ahead 1-0 against Richard Rose. Callum Stewart beat Martin Rose and Jill Northey beat Ben Bolton to lead 3-0. Richard pulled one back for Okehampton against Callum. John beat Ben for 4-1 in the next Jill just lost out to Martin in a hard fought five leg decider 3-2 for a 4-2 to Horrabridge.

Callum won the next against Ben for 5-4 but Richard beat Jill in four legs for his second singles win. In the last singles

John completed a fine maximum against Martin. John and Callum won the doubles against Martin and Ben for a 7-3 win for Horrabridge.
