TAVISTOCK Amateur Boxing Club’s Carleigh Bammens travelled to Torbay on February 9 to face Worcester boxer Alison Sidebotham.
This was the first time out for Carleigh against a boxer who already had a contest under her belt. It proved to be possibly the most even match of the evening with both girls showing supreme fitness and the action was constant throughout the three rounds.
Carliegh’s longer range work was the outstanding feature of her performance coupled with some good footwork. In reply her opponent had the better of the closer engagements with some very good combinations.
In the third round with the bout so even both contestants gave their all and it was an exciting spectacle, with the advantage first with one boxer and then the other. A lot of applause was given by the appreciative crowd. In amateur boxing their can only be one winner and by a split decision the judges gave that decision to Carleigh.
