TAVISTOCK Swimming Club, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary next Sunday, recently competed in the Devon Inter Club Gala at the Plymouth Life Centre.

The team, which was made up of a mixture of experienced swimmers and members who were representing the club for the first time, achieved 23 personal best times and eight top 10 individual placings in this competitive gala, which saw Tavistock finish 8th overall — their best ever placing.

The top 5 placings were achieved by Matt Edwards, who was 2nd and 3rd in the men's open 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly respectively. Also in the men's open age group, Kieran Rookes was 3rd in the 100m breaststroke and Nathaniel Rookes was 5th in the 100m backstroke.

In the men's 15 and under age group, Jake France was 3rd in the 100m butterfly and 5th in the 100m backstroke, while in the girls 15 and under age group, Amber Francis was 5th in the 100m breaststroke and a 5th place was also achieved by Ryan Lillyman in the 50m freestyle in the men's 13 and under age group.
