THE month of June saw swimmers competing at two galas over two weekends at Plymouth Life Centre.
First up was the Devon Sprint Gala where all swimmers were required to compete in all the 50 metre events - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
In this highly subscribed gala, the Tavistock members achieved some excellent results and for some, this was their first experience competing.
The 23 members achieved 62 personal best times with eight swimmers achieving personal best times in all four of their events - Eloise Alden, Erika Buckley, Mia Buckley, Jenna Mabey, Freya Murray, Hamish Noakes, Evie Palmer and Emily Swift.
Next up was the Devon Development Gala where swimmers could choose which events they competed in. Once again it was an excellent meet for Tavistock Swimming Club members who between them achieved 89 personal best times.
There were 52 top ten positions and 27 were medal winning. First placings were achieved by Emily France, Alex Francis, Amber Francis, Hannah Gellatly, Orla Maguire, Amy Roberts and Finley Smallshaw.
Development coach Nathaniel Rookes was delighted with their performances. He said: ‘Fantastic swimming by so many swimmers, with many surprising themselves and showing that their hard work in training has paid off and been deservedly rewarded with some excellent times.’
