Devon seconds B Tavistock seconds v Abbotskerswell seconds TAVISTOCK came up against unbeaten Abbotskerswell on Saturday and had an excellent win by 57 runs. The home side batted first and were soon in trouble when three wickets fell for just eight runs and it needed a steady partnership by 12-year-old James White and Freddie Jayarajah to lift the score. Jayarajah did the bulk of the scoring with some glorious cover drives and quickly scored 41. A flurry of wickets saw further problems. Andy Gauler and David Milligan dug in with a 50 plus partnership to ensure the scoreboard ticked over. With Nick Coe adding more runs a total of 158 was reached. Dave Palmer's 4-18 was the pick of the bowlers. Tavistock knew they had to bowl well to give themselves any chance and they did so from the word go. Dave Milligan's 1-9 off five overs was the start, Sam Willets and Andy Gauler then two wickets each to restrict Abbots to 56-5. Andy Gauler's 2-11 in nine overs was exceptional. Captain Marc Webber then took off his wicket keeping pads and bowled his spinners to great effect, taking three wickets for four runs to consign Abbotskerswell to their first defeat. It was excellent effort from Tavistock who are now safely ensconced in the middle of the table.
